Hens get older and their egg laying can slow down. Sometimes, they may stop laying eggs altogether. Young hens, called pullets, start to lay eggs at about five or six months old. They are really good at laying eggs for the first year or two. However, some breeds like the Leghorn chicken can start laying eggs as early as 18-20 weeks old.
